5 November 2024: after 24 days at sea from Brest, L'Atalante waits at anchor off Colón, with other ships at anchor on the horizon. Before dawn on the 6th, the port lights shine under a heavy sky.
In the afternoon, L'Atalante enters the canal: under a big bridge, then along a channel lined with tropical forest, up to the first locks on the Atlantic side. In the lock chamber, a red-hulled ship and other vessels lie close by, along the walls.
At the end of the day, Gatún Lake and its islets in the low sun. At night, the Miraflores Locks (1913), on the Pacific side. On the morning of the 7th, L'Atalante is in the Pacific, heading for Manzanillo.
